HENRY CONSTABLE
of WILLENHALL

Henry Constable - travel service of distinction.

Established in 1927 by Gertrude and Cornelius Constable with their sons Henry and Cornelius 11, Constables taxis of Willenhall has always been a name synonymous with a curteous, comfortable personal experienced travel service with excellent timekeeping standards which are still upheld even in todays busy times. As the years rolled by Henry met and married Gladys (a local lass) and they continued to supply taxis via the booking office in the front room of their terraced house at 22 Fletchers Lane in Willenhall. The first vehicles purchased were a bullnosed Morris Cowley and a model "T" type Ford, later in 1933 Henry purchased a "Charabanc" motor-coach built by the "Bean motor company" at a cost of £30.00. Henry was a well known character in Willenhall, being instantly recognisable by his long black Crombie over-coat and chauffeurs peaked cap. Henrys children, Barry, June and Harry helped to keep the tradition of service standards set by Henry through the years.

Circa 1998 a restructuring of the business became necessary with fleet changes to include LDV mini-coaches, Mercedes and Beauford open top wedding cars (the Beaufords being handbuilt by Harry who possesses City and Guilds certificates in motor vehicle mechanics). Harry who has been in the business since 1967, is now sole proprietor at this time, realised that to improve the business a website would be a necessity and so in 2007, our site was being used to encourage enquiries from as far away as France, Germany, Australia and America, for intending visitors to Willenhall. "Constables of Willenhall" is probably the longest serving continuously family owned taxi, mini-coach and wedding car supplier in the Midlands!. Occasionally the great grandchildren of Henrys original customers from the 1920s use our services for weddings etc. Also many elderly clients still enjoy the personal attention given at all times, and even ask for assistance with filling in forms, repairing doorbells, water leaks, repairing vehicles, no charge! (can it get more helpful than that?)

Fund raising for local charities requires the free services of the Beauford cars,as in the case of the "Willenhall thespian amateur dramatic society" show in 2006, and also many local carnivals such as Willenhall which we have supported since approximately 1933. On these carnival days, the Beaufords are bedecked with Union Jack flags to show our national pride whilst helping to raise funds for the Willenhall christmas old folks treat. The Beauford cars are also used when a deserving cause approach with a request for a free trip to be enjoyed by a disabled person/child who would not normally be able to obtain the opportunity to travel in this type of vehicle. Great pleasure and satisfaction is derived from giving these services. today, "Henry Constable" the original business, is in experienced and caring hands with Harry and wife Susan, also daughters Lara and Alexa all giving dedicated support in an endeavour to continue to provide the standards of service that can only be offered by an established trust-worthy family firm.
